Ikea Pays $46 Million to Family of Toddler Killed by Dresser
Retail giant Ikea will pay $46 million to the family of a young child who was killed in 2017 by a tipped-over dresser. The 2-year-old was one of at least nine children killed by Ikea dressers falling over. In 2016, the company recalled 17.3 million dressers, including the one that killed the plaintiff’s son. He was the first child that died after the recall was announced.

Hacker Accused of Using Ring Cameras to Spy on Children
An Alabama man has filed a class action lawsuit alleging a hacker used his Ring security cameras to spy on his children. The lawsuit accuses the Amazon-owned company of negligence and invasion of privacy. The lawsuit cites a number of instances in which Ring cameras were accessed by hackers, including one incident in which an 8-year-old girl was harassed. The lawsuit was filed Thursday in Los Angeles federal court.
California Judge Rejects Mothers Wrongful Death Suit Against Youth Football League
A California judge has rejected a wrongful death lawsuit filed against Pop Warner youth football over the deaths of two former child athletes. The lawsuit was filed by the mothers of the two young men who were posthumously diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain condition linked to contact sports. On Friday, Judge Philip S. Gutierrez granted a motion of summary judgment to Pop Warner. The plaintiffs sought monetary damages for seven causes of action, including negligence, fraud and wrongful death.
Mississippi Teen Sues JUUL and Others Over His Nicotine Addiction
A teenager from Mississippi has filed a lawsuit against JUUL Labs and others alleging they are to blame for his nicotine addiction. The 18-year-old states he became addicted to nicotine through using the companies’ vaping products and is struggling to function without it. Also named in the lawsuit are Pax Labs, Altra Group, and Philip Morris USA.
